Home Again, Home Again, Jiggity Jig.
WARNING: Spoilers ahead, so if you did not see the ANGEL season finale, DON'T READ THIS POST!!
And now we are home, huh? It took me awhile before I decided what I wanted to say about this season's finale. Ultimately, I think it's because I'm not too sure what to think. You have to feel sorry for Angel. He seems to be the only person on the program who is up on all continuity. How many times does he have to remember something that no one else does? I mean, Buffy came to town; he was cured, but TPTB stopped it from happening by doing a little reverse continuity, and Angel is the only one that remembers. Now, Connor is wiped from continuity and Angel AGAIN is the only one that remembers. What's up with that?
Now, I have to be the slowest person in the planet, or I just happen to be a dim bulb. I must have gotten used to having things being explained to me, because both of this weeks M.E. offering had points which I felt needed to be a little explanation. i.e. In "Touched," while there are ways to explain Buffy's super butt-kicking fight at the end of the episode, it just seemed a little off to have her finally be able to hold her own against Caleb after having her butt handed to her twice. ESPECIALLY at a point in which she was feeling all low and down on herself. Now, I get that because she was alone and not having to worry about the S-I-T's she was more focused, but is that it?
I bring that up because last night was the same deal. What exactly did Angel do to Connor that had the result that it did? What happened? It was an emotionally touching moment at the end, but I was a little distracted trying to figure out what had happened. Ah well. Connor -- we hardly knew ye.
As for the Wolfram & Hart aspect of the episode, it was damned kickin' from beginning to end. From Lilah's protracted teaser at the top of the show (kudos to the music editor for leading us astray) to the LOOOOONG silence (with sproadic sighs) at the beginning of the episode, to the various characters of W&H, this was a cool episode, which sets up what could be a potentially killer season. Fred becoming the "Q" of the group? 'Now pay attention, double-O Angel. This looks like an ordinary toothbrush. But inside, these micro-fibers in the head are really miniature wooden stakes for use against other vampires.' And what happened with Gunn? Did he just get amped or what? Wesley just rocked the whole episode. Lorne's just gonna be great. I can see him organizing all kinds of company outings (hee hee.)
Also, let me just say that it was a breath of fresh air that the episode acknowledged the upcoming crossover and underscored the importance of Angel's presence, rather than making it a caprice. It just makes next week's episode of Buffy THAT much more anticipatory.
On that end, despite what I have heard in the past, I have now read in two places that Angel will be appearing in the last TWO episodes of BUFFY, so I guess this is REALLY gonna be the big bash we've been waiting for. And I can't say enough how glad I am of that. Makes me believe that we might actually get to see some cool interaction between Angel and Spike. That should be REALLY interesting.
