Discussion, critique and fannish obsession over the works of Joss Whedon and his band of merry geniuses

OK, Glazing over the sarcasm
SPIN THE BOTTLE was one of the best episodes I have seen in a long time on Angel. Do big surprise that it was written AND directed by Joss Whedon. Oh, SPIN THE BOTTLE, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways:
1) BACK TO BASICS: I never realized how much I missed the old Cordelia until Charisma Carpenter resurrected her for us. I mean, that was beautiful beyond words. From her realization that her hair was gone, to the quick conclusion that everyone was out to have sex with her, to her overall snotty attitude, it was perfect. If I had closed my eyes, I would have thought this show was done years ago and saved for today. Alexis Denisoff was great in bringing the old Wesley back. For me, a guy who has been complaining about the overdose of angst in Wesley's life, this was a nice piece of candy to chew on. Back to his old obnoxious self who believes that he knows more than anyone else....I was in heaven.
2) NEW BASICS: It was nice to meet Fred before she was sucked away from us. She was really pretty cool. And how about Angel? We never REALLY saw him before he was turned. I mean, we did but it was brief at best. It was nice to see him pre-Vampire.
3) EFFECTIVE USE: And while on that, how about how a young Angel was able to almost touch Connor for a brief moment. Could we be moving towards a better understanding between the two? Or are we in for the big hurt?
4) THE END: I love that Joss is able to take an episode which, to a casual observer, might be just another funny episode and give it a nice weight. It carries significance through the season and that is one of the things that differentiates Joss from the rest. His ability to give things proper meaning.
To sum up............I LOVED THIS EPISODE!!!!
