Discussion, critique and fannish obsession over the works of Joss Whedon and his band of merry geniuses

Is it SAFE?
Well, yeah. Was it good? Sure. I liked it.
This episode, in my mind, goes hand in hand with OUT OF GAS as being quite the hole fillers in continuity. This episode satisfied my need for skinny on River and Simon. It was also nice, as always, to see River coming out of her shell. She can be the Fred of the series, which would make me immenently happy. She wouldn't necessarily be a repeated character because we're talkin' different circumstances.
I was a bit distressed for the dynamic duo when Mal decided to leave them behind. It's the first time that I can remember a main character (in any show that I have seen) consciously making the decision to leave someone behind NOT out of necessity.
The Shepherd got a bit more mystery to him, which I like a lot. It seems a bit reminiscent of THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER, but I'm not gonna rehearse that script before I get it.
Finally, I feel sorry for Kaylee. I mean, after all she keeps getting dissed by Simon and yet she keeps going back to him. He, fortunately/unfortunately is oblivious. I'll just say right now that if she ever gets tired of going through that nice game of ping-pong, I am here for her.
