Discussion, critique and fannish obsession over the works of Joss Whedon and his band of merry geniuses

Ah, to follow the sick bastard....what fun!

I find myself in the increasingly dubious position of agreeing with Brian. At least on one count: I had to cover my eyes when Dawn was trying out for Cheerleading. I also have to admit that Dawn pushing someone down the stairs was a visual that I was DEFINITELY not prepared for.

The show started off reasonably enough, with Spike and Xander reinventing The Odd Couple. I have to give uber-kudos to Drew Greenberg for keeping this theme throughout the show (despite it being relegated physically to the first scene.) I think it's also a bit of a contrast that while Angel having a soul was always a more or less serious subject, the Scoobies are subtly making Spike having a soul part of the occasional punchline. Extra Kudos awarded for staying away from the saturated angst that this could have entailed.

Scene two had a bit of foreshadowing in it, which wasn't long for this world as the plot immediately thickened.

Again, agreeing with Brian, this show had serious potential for drama. I was getting worried since I was really in the mood for lighthearted fare.

I should have known better than to worry. Comedy ensued to the ultimate, culminating in the coolest underplayed scene I've seen in quite awhile as we sit in the principal's office, listening to a nice smooth jazz song, watching him do work. Eagle-eyed scouts would notice a nice little show out the window, which had me in hysterics.

All in all this episode was wrapped up nicely with the newly-formed (and I'm sure short-lived) Xander and Spike team enacting their boldest plot to date!!! *sigh* Now as I sit here and shake my Magic 8 Ball, I believe that next week we'll get our insight into this season's Big Bad. Why? Because it's sweeps and next week is being promo-ed as being intense. Besides, supposedly Tara will be mentioned, and that's always big news this season.

BTW, before I forget, SARAH LOOKED THE BEST she's looked in a long time. And I mean that even before she fell under the love spell. She was just the picture of sexy and beauty. *sigh* Oh, and intelligence.................I'm not shallow.
